It’s a brand new year and usually at the beginning of the year we have New Year’s resolution (NYR) that some may last and will be achieved by the year ends. The key to a successful and fulfilled New Year’s resolution is to do it for yourself and not for others. One of the many common NYR are; breaking old habit, save more money, fall in love, make more friends and hate less, travel more and procrastinate less, and the ultimate one that always starts off with a bright burning spirit and becomes a ghost from the past by June; lose weight, eat healthier and be healthier. First things first is always; research. In this age, everything is accessible through the internet. Research the types of food that provides the right nutrition for your body. Some articles online might suggest you to eat according to your blood type; what to eat, what to avoid and what to take in moderation. Some may also suggest that you eat according to your body type. So, ten minutes into your healthy diet research, you’d end up confused. Better way would be just follow the following common sense and general rule to a healthier option of doing things; but if you are one of those people who are so particular and want to seek professional advices and consultation, it is best to set an appointment with your healthcare provider or nutritionist. If you are like the rest of us who would just want to balance things up by following the general rule of thumb to living a healthier life, here is your cheat sheet;

Cut back on sugar & starch or carbs. When your sugar level is low to begin with, your hunger levels go down and you will eat less calories. When you eat lower calories, instead of burning carbs for energy, your body will make energy and burn stored fat instead. Another awesome reason why you should cut back on sugary foods and food with high sugar content is it will help lower your insulin level which soon causes your kidneys to remove excess sodium and water out of your body. Incorporate protein, fats & vegetable into every meal; balance and correct proportion is key!

Load your plate with these low-carb vegetables. You can eat massive amounts of them without going over 20–50 net carbs per day. A diet based mostly on meat and vegetables contains all the fiber, vitamins and minerals you need to be healthy.

Don’t be afraid of eating fat, as trying to do both low-carb AND low-fat at the same time is a recipe for failure. It will make you feel miserable and abandon the plan. These are some healthy fats and please everything in moderation: Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Butter.

You don’t need to exercise to lose weight on this plan, but remember? To be healthy is to practice; BALANCE. To burn more during a workout, is to do weight lifting. Do it 3-4 times accompanied by a 30 minute cardio like walking, jogging, sprinting, cycling, swimming. If you are a newbie at the gym, do ask for a trainer’s advice. By lifting, you’ll burn more calories and prevent your metabolism from slowing down, which is a very common effect when trying to lose weight. And don’t worry, you won’t end up bulky ladiessss!

So you see, the main key is always balance. Eat healthy and exercise at least an hour a day, 3-5 times a week. Switch up your exercising routine, don’t stick to the same routine, spruce it up and enjoy working out.
