Mental disorders are common and widespread.  According to the World Health Organization, at some point in a person’s life, 1 out of 4 will be affected by mental or neurological disorders. Mental disorders are one of the top causes of ill-health and disability worldwide and should not be taken lightly. Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions.

Most families are not prepared to cope with learning their loved one has a mental illness. It can be physically and emotionally trying, and can make us feel vulnerable to the opinions and judgments of others. Treatments are available, but nearly two-thirds of people with a known mental disorder never seek help from a health professional. Stigma, discrimination and neglect prevent care and treatment from reaching people with mental disorders, says the World Health Organization (WHO). Where there is neglect, there is little or no understanding. Where there is no understanding, there is neglect.

Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, the Director-General of WHO said, mental illness is not a personal failure. So we shouldn’t feel discourage and know that they are help available. Mental illness or disorders have many types, here are some listed by Time To Change.Uk :
